Residents Speak Up in the Envision 100 General Survey
Many Concerned with Growth, Traffic, Greenspace
On August 10 at 5 PM, the City of Sugar Hill closed the general Envision 100 survey. Envision 100 is the City’s name for the current update of its comprehensive land use plan.
Although the survey opened in May, many residents were not aware of the survey until I shared information about it, along with a comment from Planning Director Kaipo Awana during the June City Council meeting that the City planned to close the survey in a couple of weeks. It seems as though subsequent resident feedback caused a change in the City’s original plans.
Most of the survey consisted of multiple-choice questions with options provided by the City. However, it also allowed people to supply comments in response to the question, “What do you think are the most important values for our community?”
There are around 231 comments. At least seventy-six (76) express concerns about the growth of the City of Sugar Hill.
About twenty (20) said explicitly, “No more apartments.”
Other frequently mentioned topics include a desire for more restaurants, less traffic, lower property taxes, and the creation/preservation of greenspace in Sugar Hill.
