City Prepares to Submit Final Draft of Updated Comprehensive Land Use Plan
At yesterday’s City Council Work Session, Planning Director Kaipo Awana said he would be asking the City Council at the December City Council Meeting on Monday, December 11 to approve the submission of the updated Sugar Hill Comprehensive Land Use Plan produced by the City’s Envision 100 initiative to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and the Atlanta Regional Commission.
A proposed draft of the plan is now available for resident review.
The City conducted a public hearing on the document with about 15 residents in attendance on Thursday, November 30.
The City admitted that the new Comprehensive Plan is largely the same as the old Comprehensive Plan that the City has been using as a guide for planning and zoning decisions for the last 5 years, including the decisions that generated controversial high-density developments.
On Monday afternoon, the City of Sugar Hill Planning Department emailed residents who had signed up to receive communications about the comprehensive land use plan update. The email informs residents that if they missed the public hearing on the draft, they can review the document online and submit feedback by email by 5 PM on Thursday, December 7.
At the work session, Council Member Taylor Anderson asked Awana if he foresees changing the document as a result of the hearing or any feedback provided later. Awana responded, “Um, no, there won’t be many changes, I don’t expect to see many changes.”
